In SKA, we utilize five general types of Kumite (sparring) practices. Each form of Kumite has a distinct set of rules and procedures that must be followed. Additionally, protective mouth pieces and hand pads must be worn during Kumite.

Ippon Kumite - One-time Attack
Sanbon Kumite - Three-time Attack
Jiyu Ippon Kumite - Free One-time Attack
Jiyu Kumite - Free Sparring
Iai - One-time Attack from Natural Stance



1. Dueling is prohibited.
2. Bow when entering or leaving training floor.
3. No training under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
4. No shoes on training floor.
5. No breaks and no leaving practice, except with permission of instructor.
6. No talking without permission.
7. No wearing of jewelry (rings, watches, etc.) while training.
8. No gum chewing during class.
9. Keep yourself , your gi, and your dojo clean.
10. Always act in a respectful manner. Respect your seniors and your juniors.
11. Report all injuries to your instructor before leaving dojo.
